The City of Limerick is in a process of transformation and evolution. As the third largest city in the Republic and the regional capital of the Mid-West region, it is strategically placed in the western corridor between Galway and Cork.
The City is the centre of a region with a strong industrial cluster of high technology industry. It has successfully embraced urban renewal and possesses a developing cultural tourism sector. There is a climate of confidence in the future.
There is now a need to shape and influence this future, particularly in the context of the substantial concentrations of social and economic disadvantage in our City.
This Strategy document represents the overall vision, goals and objectives to be achieved over the coming decade. It is the aim of the Board that these will remain consistent over the life of the Strategy. It does not present the full depth and expanse of the detail required to achieve the vision, goals and objectives. An additional Implementation Handbook sets down the actions, indicators and timescales for achievement. A total of 26 goals, 159 objectives, 460 actions across the eight themes form a living and working document which will undergo ongoing review, amendment and monitoring of the Board's activities.
