Limerick City Development Board
Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

Limerick has a history of enterprise and entrepreneurship which has underpinned much of the economic development. The capacity of the City to offer land areas for development has necessitated a move to the country areas. This has propelled much of the new industrial thinking around the knowledge economy.
This includes developing new employment opportunities, facilitating greater participation among all people in the promotion and development of enterprise. Broadening and strengthening the base of micro, knowledge and small to medium enterprises in the City, assisting to reduce dependence on traditional or declining economic sectors, maximising the employment and value added potential of all enterprises and contributing to national competitiveness.
Furthermore it calls for more focussed effort to extend benefits to the City of foreign investments in County Limerick and encouraging new foreign investment in the City itself.
Tourism now occupies an increasing role in our cities economy and will be targeted for further growth over the coming years. This involves building upon the work to date of Shannon Development in maintaining a tourism product base in the city and growing this in co-operation with all relevant players to a significant level.
